A more approachable zoning code
A question about what can be built on a lot can require several different sources: a parcel lookup, the district’s development standards, permitted-use tables, and the relevant ordinance text.
Chicago Zoning Assistant brings those steps into one interface. It supports address-based zoning lookups, district comparisons, development-envelope calculations, and searches of Title 17.
Structured questions, inspectable tools
The application uses structured district records for calculations, Chicago’s public data API for parcel queries, and a section-indexed search of the zoning ordinance. The same tools are available through the web chat and a local MCP server.
Conversation context supports follow-up questions about the same address or district. The repository includes tests for the tool layer and documentation of the underlying sources.
Try it
Compare RS-3 and RT-4, look up a Chicago address, or ask which code sections discuss parking requirements. Follow the cited code and map references when evaluating a specific parcel.
